The Higantes Festival or The Feast of San Clemente is an annual celebration in Angono, Rizal. The Higantes or Giants are made of paper mache and are brought through the streets in a marvelous procession around Laguna de Bay.
History says that the Higantes Festival was the only feast allowed by the hacienda owners when it was just a hacienda. The people built the higantes for Angono's only feast. Initially, there were three higantes created for the feast but there could be around 16 to 52 higantes created for the festival in modern times.
Modern Higantes are now made using Plaster of Paris and bamboo. The department of tourism also offers a course on 'higante' making.
